Prof. Dr. Darakhshan Haleem

Dr Darakhshan Jabeen Haleem, Meritorious Professor Neuroscience, Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine & Drug Research, ICCBS was formerly Dean Faculty of Science and Chairperson Department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi. Actively engaged in both teaching and research for over 30 years, Prof Haleem is author of a number of research publications in high impact factor journals. She has supervised over 30 PhD & M Phil students and has written text books on topics of neuroscience.

Prof Haleem’s research centers on the Molecular and Neural Basis of Stress, Depression, Anorexia, Addiction, and Memory. A new and exciting line of studies she is working is to improve and extend therapeutics in ADHD and making non addictive nootropic drugs.. Her research is funded by the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan, Pakistan Science Foundation and Karachi University.

She obtained Ph. D from British Post graduate Medical Federation, Institute of Neurology, London University; has been also granted honorary degree of D. Sc. She has been awarded Gold medal by Pakistan Academy of Sciences and is also a Fellow of the Academy. In recognition to her work for promotion of science, she has been awarded Nishan-e Zafar and Nishan-e Azmat Danish by University of Karachi and Izaz-e- Fazeelat by the president of Pakistan. Pakistan Council for Science and Technology has identified Prof Haleem as a Productive and one of the Top Scientists of Pakistan.
