Prof. Dr. Shaheen Faizi (S.I.)
Prof. Dr. Shaheen Faizi obtained her doctorate degree under the guidance of Professor Salimuzzaman Siddiqui, on the work of neem and Solanum xanthocarpum. For the last 40 years she has been engaged in medicinal chemistry research, and obtained a number of biologically active compounds from the plants through bioassay directed isolation studies, and prepared derivatives of natural products for establishment of structure activity relationship. The work has resulted in the publication of 254 papers, the impact factor of which is 262.34 and citation is 1583; 15 patents (Pakistan) and one US Patent. Seventeen students have got Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees under her supervision. She has guided more than 70 M.Sc. students for their thesis work. She obtained novel hypotensive, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer agents from Moringaoliefera, Bombaxceiba, Cuscutareflexa and Opuntiadillenii. Her formulation based on Melia azedarach proved to be highly beneficial for skin diseases particularly eczema. More recently she obtained patuletin a rare flavonoid from T. patula as potent anti-TNF-a and antiarthritic compound. She has 24 years of teaching experience in HEJ-ICCBS (1992-till date). In 2000, Karachi University awarded Nishan-e-Ilm-o-Danish to her and in 2001 she has been awarded the civil award, Sitar-e-Imtiaz. In addition she has also been the incharge of landscapes and gardens of the entire HEJ-ICCBS from 1992 to 2015.
